Introduction to Diving
I got into scuba diving in 2026, when I signed up for a beginner's course—mostly out of curiosity, but also because since moving to Ulm, there were opportunities to learn diving in the immediate vicinity. Training itself (clearing the mask, control buoyancy, switch between regulators, and so on) happened in a pool at first, and at the end of the course, we went to a local lake to get our „Basic Diver“ certification. A few more dives then got me to „CMAS*“, which is the equivalent of the OWD certification.
I'm a member of Sporttauchergruppe Ulm/Neu-Ulm e.V., a local, non-commercial dive club affiliated with VDST, the German diving federation under CMAS.

Gurrenhofsee
7.5 mThis lake is often used by members of my local dive club for regular diving sessions (and, thanks to its shallow depth, it can be used to practice buoyancy as well). This is the lake where I got certified and it is home to many fish, which can actually get quite big, and some clams as well. Some highlights that can be found underwater are the shopping carts, tractor wheels, rowing boats and a few stone cairns.
Plansee
33.7 mAfter getting my certification, my first ever fun dive was in the cold waters of Plansee—6.5°C was the lowest temperature that my computer showed back then. There are various interesting locations, such as the broken-down sleighs, the trees that are falling down the slope, and also a game of nine men's morris.
Blindsee
14.5 mBlindsee is a very clear mountain lake situated between the Lechtal Alps and the Mieming Range. It has a very appealing underwater scenery with many trees, which fell in with a landslide and are now lying all over the place. At this lake, I've opened my first underwater „Piccolo“ in a depth of 5 meters to toast a buddy's 800th dive.
