Smartphone app to support local business during the Covid-19 crisis
Many local businesses don't have a huge capacity to build their own online presence or to send packets from online orders. This has already been a problem in the times of online shopping and dying downtowns, however with the Covid-19 pandemic this hit another level: Almost everyone preferred online shopping over using the service of local businesses.
Together with a friend, I've developed a smartphone app that allows users to find information about local businesses, what products or services they're offering and to chat with them in case they have any questions. The app also offered the functionality to pre-order a product to reserve it for later.
The app itself was developed by my friend in Java for Android. It used a self-developed REST-API to communicate with the server. The "business part" that allows to modify basic information or offered products or services was also implemented as a web application. Both of these tasks were my responsibility.
